Tigerhawks fall in straight sets to ranked Bravettes

MONTEZUMA — The Colfax-Mingo volleyball team faced its first ranked team in 2017 on Thursday and lost in straight sets during a South Iowa Cedar League road match.

The Tigerhawks missed just three serves and had eight aces overall, but Class 1A No. 10 Montezuma swept Colfax-Mingo 25-18, 25-19. 25-20.

Senior Ries Wilson finished with 13 kills, senior Megan Earles dished out 18 assists and junior Chelsea Russell collected 11 digs in the loss.

Junior Colbee Cunningham had seven of the Tigerhawks’ remaining 11 kills, Wilson finished with seven digs and Russell was 13-for-13 in serves with three aces.

Junior Mac Brown was 15-for-15 in serves with two aces and junior Braedynn Rawlins finished 10-of-11 with two serves. The Tigerhawks were 56-of-59 from behind the service line in the game.

Rawlins and Brown both had four digs and Cunningham and Earles each had three digs.

Colfax-Mingo (3-5 overall, 1-2 in the SICL) plays in the ACGC tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday in Guthrie Center. Montezuma improved to 15-3 overall and 3-0 in the SICL after the win.
