Jasper County has an annual tradition called the CROP Hunger Walk. The walk will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Courthouse lawn. The three mile walk will end at the Salvation Army where refreshments will be served.
Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. at which time donations and unused forms will also be collected.
Of funds raised, 25 percent will stay in the community — 15 percent will go to the Newton Salvation Army, 2.5 percent will go to each of the food pantries in Baxter, Colfax, Kellogg and Monroe.
Additional money can be turned in to Carol Macksey, CROP Hunger Walk treasurer, until Oct. 23. It can be sent to her home address at 717 W. Second St. S., Newton, Iowa 50208. Her cell phone is 641-521-9228.
The CROP Hunger Walk Coordinator this year is the Mission Committee of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Newton. Rita Baker is the contact person at 641-831-0420.
Youth under 18 years of age must have a signed consent of parent or guardian to participate in the walk. The consent form is on the bottom of the donation envelope.
