School board to consider proposal for pressbox advertising at softball field

NCSD Board members will consider numerous requests at Monday's meeting

With the 2017-2018 school year in full swing, the Newton Community School District’s board will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the school’s administration building, 1302 First Ave. W. The board will vote on several fundraising requests as well as considering approving a field trip for high school journalism students. The board is also expected to approve an advertising panel for the pressbox.

At Berg Middle School students from the student council have filed a fundraiser request to hold a Lip Sync Competition. At the high school level, the board will consider numerous requests for fundraisers, including a jeans week after prom event, selling advertisements to local businesses in the school paper, a cemetery walk/performance for the speech team and two tip nights at the local Pizza Ranch, 1500 W 18th St. S.

Also on Monday night’s agenda is a proposal to add an advertising board to the side of the press box at the softball field. As the softball field project nears completion board members are administration staff are looking to put the finishing touches on the project.

Bill Peters, the principal at Newton High School will present a request to the board on Monday for a field trip request. The trip, which would allow students from the NHS Newspaper and Yearbook editors to travel to to the NEA/JEA National High School Journalism Convention in Dallas, Texas from Nov. 15-19 is likely to be approved by the board.

The superintendent’s report will feature updates from the district’s maintenance, technology and transportation supervisors. Other Monday business will include human resource updates and an approval of bills.
