Restoration work has started on the clock tower in the Jasper County Courthouse. The most noticeable change is the removal of the clock’s bell from the cupola. As a part of the restoration, the bell will be restored to its original location in the clock tower.

Smith’s Bell and Clock Company of Indiana was selected to complete the work on the restoration. The exact cost of the project is not yet know but is estimated to be fall between $54,000 and $80,000.

The county did receive a $44,500 grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa to be used for the project. Due to its historical status, the county is currently working with the society on specifications needed for the restoration.

Restoration is expected to take eight to 12 weeks and when completed will bring the clock back to original working order.
