Workshop for gardeners offered Sept. 20

ISU Extension and Outreach will be offering a free workshop for home gardeners “Cover Crops and Composting for the Home Vegetable Garden” from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 at ISU Extension and Outreach, Jasper County office, 550 N. Second Ave. W. in Newton.

In this workshop, led by ISU Extension Horticulturalist John Krzton-Presson, attendees will learn how to properly select cover crop species to improve soil health and suppress weeds in their home vegetable garden. This workshop will also cover composting at home, and demonstrate how gardeners can transform yard waste and kitchen scraps into fertile compost.

This event is free and open to the public, though early registration is strongly encouraged. To register, call 641-792-6433 or email JohnKP@iastate.edu

The workshop will include an outdoor, hands-on component so please dress accordingly.
