 Jacob C. Showalter, 19, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled substance - marijuana at 12:05 a.m. Sept. 3 after police made contact with a Ford Mustang convertible at Agnes Patterson Park after closing hours. Showalter smelled of marijuana and there was a plastic bag between his legs. The bag smelled of marijuana and officers found another bag in the trunk with a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana. Police also found a marijuana grinder with green leafy substance in the bottom. Showalter was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Ross R. Wadzinski, 30, of Newton, was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication at 10:54 p.m. Sept. 3 after police were called to 214 First Avenue West in reference to a man wearing no shirt or shorts. Wadzinski was yelling and trying to start fights and reportedly tried to get into someone’s vehicle. Police found Wadzinski on West Third Street South. Wadzinski was confused and was talking to himself. He told police he had taken two pills but he didn’t know what they were. He also told police he uses methamphetamine.

Wadzinski was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
