McConeghey, Fitch lead Colfax-Mingo harriers at Wildwood Invitational

OTTUMWA — For the second straight meet, Colfax-Mingo junior Cauy Fitch and sophomore Abbey McConeghey led the Tigerhawk harriers.

This time, Fitch was eighth in the boys’ race and McConeghey placed ninth in the girls 5K at the Wildwood Invitational hosted by Pekin High School.

McConeghey’s finish helped the Tigerhawk girls placed fifth out of 10 teams. Colfax-Mingo’s girls were better than three South Iowa Cedar League rivals on the night. The Tigerhawks scored 163 points. North Mahaska (213) was ninth, Sigourney (267) placed 10th and English Valleys didn’t have a full roster.

Fitch’s finish led the Tigerhawks boys to an eighth-place finish. Colfax-Mingo scored 194 points. Only Mediapolis (198) finished lower. Sigourney was fifth with 123 points.

The Ottumwa girls won the meet with 33 points, while host Pekin (75) was second, Danville/New London (89) third and Washington (121)) fourth.

The Pekin boys won the team title with 47 points followed by Fairfield (67), Washington (94) and Ottumwa (98).

McConeghey’s time was clocked at 21 minutes, 51 seconds. The winning girls time was 19:13 by Ottumwa’s Kylie Latcham. Ottumwa had three of the top five finishers.

Colfax-Mingo senior Danielle Decker was 31st overall in 24:54, junior Ilia Hostetter placed 43rd in 25:54 and freshman Crystal Lincoln was 47th in 26:05. Junior Delaney Underwood grabbed the final counting place in 54th with a time of 26:33.

The two non-counting runners were freshman Daytin Jones in 57th and junior Colbee Cunningham in 60th.

Fitch’s time was clocked at 18:46. Pekin’s Colten Glosser won the race in 17:29. Washington had three runners in the top six positions but finished third because its next best runner was 41st overall.

Sophomore Cyden Fitch was the next Tigerhawk to finish. He crossed the finish line in 35th with a time of 20:29. Freshman Noah Strohmeyer finished 44th in 20:53 and sophomore Michael Loney was 70th in 22:53. The final counting runner was senior Jacob Frier in 81st with a time of 23:44.

The non-counting runner was senior Nathan Evans. He finished 90th in 24:41.

Colfax-Mingo hosts what is believed to be the first-ever cross country meet in Colfax at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colfax Country Club.
