Newton Police Department

• James J. Huggins, 54, of Newton, was arrested at 1:52 p.m. Aug. 21 in the Fareway parking lot on a Jasper County warrant for violation of probation, original charge public intoxication. Huggins was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Randy G. Meyer, 58, of Newton was arrested at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 21 at 320 E. Eighth St. N. on a Jasper County warrant for failure to appear, original charge trespassing. Meyer was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jacob R. Stengele, 23, of Newton, was arrested at 4:21 a.m. Aug. 23 on a Wapello County warrant for probation violation, original charge third-degree burglary. Stengele was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Adam J. Halterman, 28, of Newton, was charged with domestic assault injury or mental illness at 1 a.m. Aug. 14 after police were called to a residence on West Fourth Street South. The victim told police she was at Halterman’s house when he assaulted her on the left side of the face. The victim also had a cut inside her mouth. Halterman told police the victim assaulted him multiple times prior to him hitting the victim twice. Halterman was unsure where he struck the victim. Halterman was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
