Column: Eclipse reminder

It’s easy to get sidetracked with the daily to-do lists as summer wraps up and everyone is gearing up for fall — for many families that means getting your kids ready for back to school.

Fall is my favorite season for many reasons, and as some leaves begin to change colors and the air begins to get chilly, I can’t help but be reminded of the many beautiful creations around me.

There have been several days and evenings cool enough this month that have allowed me to open up my windows and turn off the AC. Outside my living room windows to the east, stands a giant oak tree. I don’t know how else to describe it other than it’s my favorite part about our yard.

Some mornings I watch squirrels run on the branches of the tree and scurry around. It looks like a fun lifestyle climbing up and down that tree.

So, in the midst of the seasons about to change, I’ve been planning our wedding and wondering what the weather is going to do be like the second weekend of September.

Instead of worrying, I decided to take the motto, “whatever is meant to be, will be.” I have to admire Mother Nature no matter what it decides to do.

This past Monday, I couldn’t help but notice that many people decided to live by that motto when the weather was anything but nice during the viewing of the solar eclipse.

I thought I would hear far more complaining from attendees at Ashton Woodland Park about the cloudy skies and occasional rainfall, but that wasn’t the case. The 300 people at the viewing party were still just as excited to see the eclipse when the weather did decide to cooperate.

I think the clouds really only separated long enough to get in 2.5 viewings of the eclipse, but within those time periods, there were cheers, claps and pure excitement by all.

Watching the eclipse on the news of what was seen by others around the world was also something rather amazing. People’s reactions were priceless. God’s creations are never wrong.

That’s the thing, when there is something beautiful to be seen, the weather doesn’t get in the way.

I have decided that no matter what it’s like outside on our wedding day, it will still be just as special and worth cheering over — bring it on!
