• Tanner S. Auten, 27, of Newton, was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness at 9:46 p.m. Aug. 10 after police were called to a residence on East 15th Street South in reference to an assault. Police spoke to the victim who said he had been assaulted by Auten. The victim had a puncture wound to his left hip area. Auten allegedly showed up at the victim's residence and shoved the victim and struck him in the face. Auten was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Paul J. Gensley, 49, of Victor, was charged with assault at 5:48 p.m. when police were called to South 12th Avenue West in reference to a fight in progress. The incident involved a man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a man in a Ford truck. The man in the truck told police the man driving the motorcycle had hit him in the face. The victim said the motorcycle driver, identified as Gensley, had pulled off the interstate at exit 154 and he told Gensley not to ride the motorcycle recklessly. The victim continued driving north on Highway 14 South and Gensley allegedly kicked the victim’s vehicle door. The victim said he stopped at the intersection of Highway 14 South and South 12th Avenue West when Gensley allegedly got off his motorcycle and hit him on the left cheek. Police spoke with Gensley who said he did swing at the victim but was unsure if he made contact. Gensley was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Chiantia D. Dimery, 28, of Des Moines, was charged with public intoxication at 10:17 p.m. Aug. 12 after police were called to an apartment complex on North 11th Avenue East for an intoxicated individual who wouldn’t leave. Dimery was standing in the stairway of the apartment complex and told police she had been drinking. Dimery had slurred speech and she refused a breath test. She told police she knew she would blow over the legal limit. Dimery was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Daniel E. Gulick, 38, of Newton, was charged with possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:48 p.m Aug. 12 after police were given a tip someone was regularly smoking marijuana at an apartment on North Third Avenue East. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the residence and made contact with Gulick. Gulick said he was sorry for smoking marijuana and said he smoked it in the bathroom with a pipe. Gulick also told police there was a half-ounce left. Gulick gave the items to police and indicated he wouldn’t do it again. He gave police a container full of marijuana and another pipe. The marijuana weighed .42 oz. Gulick was released and issued a citation to appear in court.
