Twelve area athletes named to All-SICL baseball teams

The only thing that separated Lynnville-Sully and Colfax-Mingo during South Iowa Cedar League play this season was a forfeited game by the Tigerhawks in the conference finale.

The first-place finish gave the Hawks four first-team all-conference selections, but both teams landed six on the three teams.

Lynnville-Sully coach Bob Scandridge was named SICL coach of the year after guiding the Hawks to their first conference title in several years.

The first-team selections from Lynnville-Sully included seniors Caden Dunsbergen and Tyler Van Zante and juniors Carson Dunsbergen and Elijah Collins.

Colfax-Mingo juniors Jonathan Jacobs and Misha Seebeck also were first-team selections.

The Tigerhawks also placed sophomore Zarek Hill and freshman Trystin Ross on the second team.

Tigerhawk seniors Adam Teed and Jimmy Camp were honorable mention selections.

Lynnville-Sully’s other two all-conference players were juniors Josh Dunsbergen and Corbin James, who were both honorable mention picks.

Jacobs, Ross and Van Zante were each all-conference pitchers.

Jacobs did most of his damage this season in conference play. He tossed 40 1/3 of his 46 2/3 innings during SICL games. In conference play, Jacobs finished 4-0 with three saves and earned run average of 1.21. He fanned 49 and walked only seven.

Overall, Jacobs was 5-2 with three saves and an ERA of 1.05. He had 56 strikeouts and eight walks.

Van Zante joined Jacobs as a first-team pitcher. He was 5-1 in SICL games, with the lone loss coming in the season-opening 1-0 defeat against Colfax-Mingo. Van Zante had an ERA of 1.45 with 45 strikeouts and 21 walks in 38 2/3 innings pitched.

In all games, Van Zante finished 5-4 with an ERA of 2.11. He fanned 64 and walked 33 in 53 innings pitched.

Ross, who was a second-team selection, was 6-1 in conference play with ERA of 0.64. He struck out 32 and walked 11 in 33 innings pitched.

Overall, Ross was 8-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.91. He struck out 38 and walked 19 in 40 1/3 innings.

Carson Dunsbergen and Hill were both all-conference catchers.

Carson Dunsbergen batted .418 in conference play with 21 runs, 12 RBIs, 11 walks and seven steals. His on base percentage was .536. On the season, the Hawk junior hit .333 with 25 runs, 12 RBIs, 16 walks and seven steals. His OBP was .460.

Hill was the Tigerhawks’ top hitter for most of the season. During conference play, he batted .345 with 13 runs, 12 RBIs, six walks and eight steals. He reached base 43 percent of the time. Overall, Hill batted .405 with 21 runs, 23 RBIs, 10 walks and 14 steals. His OBP was .489.

Hill threw out eight potential base runners in conference play, while Carson Dunsbergen gunned down four.

Seebeck and Collins were both selected as first-team infielders.

Seebeck, who logged most of his innings at first base, batted .413 in conference play with five runs, nine RBIs, three walks and two steals. He reached base 45 percent of the time. Overall, Seebeck led the Tigerhawks with an average of .417. He scored 11 runs, finished with 18 RBIs, seven walks and two steals. His OBP was .481.

Collins, who played mostly third base when he wasn’t pitching, batted .431 in SICL play with 17 runs, 23 RBIs, eight walks and 16 steals. He reached base 52 percent of the time. Overall, Collins batted .373 with 24 runs, 27 RBIs, 13 walks and a team-best 21 steals. His OBP was .475.

The only area hitter to make the first- or second-team as an outfielder was Caden Dunsbergen.

In his final season at Lynnville-Sully, Caden Dunsbergen batted .464 in conference play with 26 runs, 19 RBIs, 11 walks and 16 steals. His OBP was .582. Overall, his average raised to .493 while scoring 29 runs, driving in 21, walking 14 times and stealing 16 bases. He reached base 51 percent of the time.

Camp and Teed were honorable mention selections as outfielders in their final seasons at Colfax-Mingo.

Camp batted .286 in conference play but reached base 55 percent of the time because he walked 13 times and was hit by a conference-most 11 pitches. He scored 19 runs, had eight RBIs and stole seven bases.

Overall, Camp batted .273 with an OBP of .520. He walked 16 times, was hit by 18 pitches, scored 30 runs, had 11 RBIs and stole 13 bases.

Teed hit .282 in conference play with eight runs, eight RBIs, 13 walks and six stolen bases. He reached base .43 percent of the time. Overall, Teed batted .270 with 13 runs, 14 RBIs, 16 walks and eight stolen bases. His OBP was .427.

James collected honorable mention honors after batting .345 in conference play with 12 runs, seven RBIs and an OBP of .400. Overall, James batted .324 with 14 runs, 13 RBIs and eight walks. His OBP was .405.

Josh Dunsbergen, who logged 23 innings on the mound in conference play and had a record of 3-1, hit .250 with 11 runs, seven RBIs, six walks and an OBP of .379. The numbers were better through an entire season as he batted .265 with 21 runs, eight RBIs, 13 walks and an OBP of .412.
