BODE — An Iowa sheriff says a plane forced to land in one county crashed later in his adjacent county. Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger said Monday that the pilot and his two passengers weren’t injured in Saturday’s crash into a cornfield. He identified the pilot as 65-year-old Jerome Kohlhaas, who lives in Hardy. Kruger says the plane first made an emergency landing in a farm field near St. Joseph in Kossuth County.
Kruger says the engine on the 1937 Stinson Gullwing was checked over by a mechanic, and Kohlhaas took off again.
Kruger says he’s not sure how long the plane was in the air before crashing into the field near the county line northeast of Bode.
The crash is being investigated.
