Newton Police Department

• Steven E. Daniels, 38, of Newton, was charged with second-degree harassment and domestic abuse assault at 1:26 p.m. July 14 after police were called to the 2000 block of West 18th Street South. Officers met with the victim who said Daniels got into a physical altercation with her. The victim told police that Daniels pushed her back by the throat and strangled her to the point that she couldn’t breathe. Daniels left on foot and the victim called police. When police made contact with Daniels, he said he didn’t remember hurting the victim and if he did, it was accidental. Daniels was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Joshua R. Kaisand, 26, of Newton, was charged with second-degree burglary and obstruction of emergency communications at 4:20 p.m. June 21 after police were called to a residence on Clay Street in Newburg. The victim told police that two males knocked on her door and asked for another woman’s belongings. The victim said she didn’t have it. The victim attempted to call police. The suspects then grabbed the victim by her arms and pushed her on the couch. One suspect grabbed her purse and went through it. The victim called 911 and reported several items stolen, including, an iPhone, a bottle of Vyvanse pills and a bottle of Lorazepam pills. Kaisand was arrested July 10 on warrants relating to the incident. Kaisand was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Deborah A. Miller, 48, of Newton, was charged with driving while barred, at 11:40 a.m. July 16 after Miller was in an accident. Miller was driving a 2005 Ford Escape at the intersection of Iowa Speedway Drive and First Avenue East. Miller left the scene of the accident. Miller was located 90 minutes later and she admitted to being the driver of the vehicle. Miller’s driver’s license status is currently barred for habitual offender. Miller was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Melissa A. Morris, 51, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 3:50 p.m. July 16 after police were called to Walmart. Morris is accused of taking items from the store and putting them inside her handbag. The total value of merchandise was $57. Morris was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Jami M. Duggan-Fry, 41, of Iowa City, was charged with trespassing and possession of controlled substance - marijuana at 6:43 p.m. July 19 after police located a woman with an active warrant in a vehicle at South Fourth Avenue West. Fry had been trespassed from a residence and had a warrant for her arrest. Fry was arrested. During a search of her purse, police found a small plastic bag of a green leafy substance, which tested positive for marijuana. The marijuana weighed .04 grams. Fry was arrested and taken the Jasper County Jail.
