CMB ends regular season with loss to Hawks

JEWELL — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter baseball team ended its regular season with a 4-0 loss to South Hamilton on Thursday.

The Hawks plated two runs in the first and two in the fourth. Four different pitchers — CJ Hewitt, Zeke Balderas, Cole Berg and DJ Klonglan — combined to allow four hits against the Raiders.

Senior Tucker Maxwell (0-4) started on the mound and allowed all four runs in taking the loss. Seniors Brady Kemp and Creighton Caple each threw an inning of relief. The Raider trio allowed six hits.

The win by the Hawks (8-18 overall, 3-13 in the HOIC) gives them a season split.

The Raiders (4-20, 2-14) defeated South Hamilton 3-2 earlier this season.

CMB, which has lost eight of its last nine games, opens Class 2A District 14 play against Ogden at 5 p.m. Saturday in Story City.

The Raiders have eliminated Ogden from postseason play the last two seasons.
