Luther announces 2017 graduates

DECORAH — Luther College seniors Peder Hopkins and Katelin Klyn, both of Newton, participated in commencement ceremonies for the class of 2017 at May 21 in Luther’s Regents Center.

Hopkins received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, magna cum laude.

Klyn received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and biology.

Luther President Paula Carlson congratulated the graduates and introduced John A. Nunes, president of Concordia College-New York in Bronxville, N.Y., who gave an inspiring commencement address on using your voice and standing for what is right.

At the ceremony, brothers Scott Meyer, Luther class of 2005, and John Meyer, Luther class of 2008, received the Luther College Young Alumni Award.

The award recognizes the outstanding achievement of Luther alumni in their vocation or avocation who have graduated in the last 15 years. The Meyers’ work includes founding the company 9 Clouds, which provides digital marketing centered around the belief that educating customers is the best way to grow a business.

Luigi Enriquez, Luther class of 2017, was awarded the Luther College Jenson Medal; an award presented each year to an outstanding senior, selected by the graduating class, who best demonstrates the ideals of the college through service to students and the college community. In addition to performing in several Luther music ensembles Enriquez served the college as a member of Student Senate, Launching Luther Leaders(L3), Dance Marathon and as a resident assistant.
