Ranked Tigerhawks get back on track against BGM

COLFAX — Junior Rhiannon Haley hit her sixth home run of the season, and sophomore Colbee Cunningham didn’t allow an earned run in the circle during the Colfax-Mingo softball team’s 3-1 win over BGM during South Iowa Cedar League play.

The Class 1A No. 11 Tigerhawks plated the winning runs in the fifth and got back on track after Wednesday’s loss to HLV.

Haley’s solo home run in the second inning tied the game at 1-all. In the fifth, junior Ries Wilson laced a one-out double and then scored on an Alivia Haley bunt that was misplayed. Senior Amy Russell and Rhiannon Haley had back-to-back singles.

Alivia Haley made it 3-1 when he scored on sophomore Mackensie Brown’s RBI groundout.

Haley now has a team-high 32 RBIs, and Russell is batting .500.

Wilson had one hit and one run, Russell had one hit and walked once and Brown had one hit and an RBI. The Tigerhawks (17-8 overall, 10-4 in the SICL) finished with six hits.

Cunningham improved to 6-5 in the circle, allowing no earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

BGM (10-11, 7-7) scored an unearned run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

Colfax-Mingo plays in the annual Marshalltown Bobcat Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Tigerhawks play 3A Bondurant-Farrar at 3:15 p.m. Friday and then take on 5A Marshalltown at 5 p.m.

Colfax-Mingo plays 4A Marion at 10 a.m. Saturday before finishing its day against 1A Lisbon.
