CMB’s Fricke, PCM’s Seebeck headlines area all-HOIC soccer honors

Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s boys soccer team took a big step forward in its second season back as a high school program.

The Raiders, led by junior Carter Fricke, recorded six more wins than the previous season when they finished 8-11.

Fricke earned first-team all-Heart of Iowa Conference honors recently after tallying 30 points this season.

Prairie City-Monroe junior Misha Seebeck was another area player who earned first-team honors after scoring a pair of goals for the Mustangs.

Fricke tallied 12 goals and six assists to lead CMB.

Two of his teammates, junior Ryan Sebastiano and sophomore Josh Bruntz earned second-team honors along with PCM seniors Zac Read and Zac Van Waardhuizen.

Only two area girls landed on the all-HOIC teams. CMB’s Tatum Tremain and PCM’s Caitlyn Walters were both second-team selections.

Fricke and Seebeck were joined on the all-HOIC first team by Nevada’s AJ Strottman, Dennis Garcia and Brendan Sellbert, North Polk’s Alec Boletta and Gilbert’s Noel Steckelbert, Jacke Calendine, Andrew Thatcher, Schuyler Hop, Christian Graber and Cael Klein.

The second team included PCM’s Read and Van Waardhuizen, CMB’s Bruntz and Sebastiano, Nevada’s Trent Stahl and Devin Sec, North Polk’s Colin Swygman, Keegan Door, Luke Hammond and Eric Fourez and Gilbert’s Jason Taylor and Luke Campbell.

Read scored one goal for the four-win Mustangs as the team’s second-best offensive threat. Van Waardhuizen stopped 55 shots and had a save percentage of .696 as the team’s primary goalie.

The CMB turned around its program with a 7-7 season in 2017. Tremain, who is a junior from West Marshall, led the way with 14 goals, one assist and 29 points.

PCM’s girls team won just one game this season. Walters was the Mustangs’ best defender. She tallied an assist.

The girls’ all-HOIC first team included four players each from North Polk, Nevada and Gilbert. All three programs played in the state tournament this past season.

The first team included North Polk’s Joy Smith, Courtney Bonewitz, Danielle Bonewitz and Emily Larson, Nevada’s Abby Stephenson, Kaylee Kruschwitz, Holly Coogler and Izzy Kaputska and Gilbert’s Olivia Stearns, Molly Laws, Emily Branson and Jazlyn Cornelious.

Tremain and Walters were joined on the second team by North Polk’s Hannah Becker, Gracie Harmeyer and Katryn Halterman, Nevada’s Skye Borton, Grace Francis, Abbie Lindsey and Hattie Rhodes and Gilbert’s Hannah Thatcher, Eva Steckelberg and Erin Kimle.
