Young people celebrate faith milestones

Blake and Jana Sevenbergen, son and daughter of Scott and Ange Sevenbergen, celebrated faith milestones as part of the worship June 18, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton. In addition to the regular gathered congregation, many members of Blake’s and Jana’s family, including their baptismal sponsors, shared in the music-filled worship.

After completing instruction in the Christian faith as expressed in the Lutheran Church, Blake Sevenbergen affirmed, claimed as his own, the baptismal vows made for him by his parents and sponsors. As part of his affirmation of faith, Blake presented his faith statement based on his chosen life verse: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” Phil. 4:13.

Jana Sevenbergen was welcomed to the Lord’s Table after completing a course of instruction helping her understand the Sacrament of Holy communion. Jana’s favorite understanding of Holy Communion is “It is like a hug from Jesus”.

The Rev. Kenneth Ahntholz, pastor of Holy Trinity, provided instruction for Blake and Jana.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This year, Holy Trinity is celebrating 60 years of providing opportunities of Christian worship, education and service in Newton. The official anniversary celebration will be Aug. 5-6 with the Rev. Steve Pannkuk, former pastor with Holy Trinity, as guest preacher for the 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday.
