Raider baseball loses twice at Colo-NESCO tournament

ZEARING — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter baseball team allowed 38 runs in two games at the Colo-NESCO tournament and finished 0-2 against the host Royals and West Marshall.

The Raiders opened the tournament with a 22-12 loss to Colo-NESCO and then West Marshall handed CMB a 16-4 loss in the tourney finale.

CMB led the Royals 8-1 after four innings. Colo-NESCO (2-9-1) rallied with a 12-run fifth inning and a nine-run sixth inning to win.

Senior Brady Kemp had two of the Raiders’ three hits in the game. One of those hits was a home run, and Kemp finished with two RBIs.

Senior Brady Ross finished with runs, two RBIs and walked twice, and junior Travis Lindemoen walked twice and scored twice. Freshman Cole Damman scored twice and sophomore Ian Thomson walked twice.

Freshman Carter Nelson allowed four runs — one earned — on one hit in 4 1/3 innings, but he didn’t factor into the decision. Sophomore Derrick Klemme and senior Adam Smith and Kemp all pitched in relief.

Smith took the loss after allowing seven runs — three earned — on two hits with three walks and no strikeouts in 1/3 of an inning.

West Marshall (10-3) tallied five runs in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth in the win over CMB (2-8).

Kemp had two of the Raiders’ five hits and finished with one RBI. Ross had one hit, one walk and one run scored.

Senior Tucker Maxwell took the loss after allowing six runs — one earned — on two hits with four walks in two innings. Ross, junior Bryce Bacon and Damman all threw in relief.

CMB plays at 5:15 p.m. Monday in Nevada.
