A 20-year-old Kellogg resident was killed in a vehicle accident in Poweshiek County Thursday night. Riley J. Ely was reported dead on arrival by the Iowa State Patrol at an accident that also involved Kyle A. Sadler, 20, of Grinnell at 10:51 p.m. on 120th Street near Malcom.
According to the state patrol, the vehicles were traveling southbound on 120th Street and for an unknown reason, Sadler’s Chevrolet Silverado truck hit the rear of Ely’s Ford Mustang causing it to go into the ditch, roll and catch fire. Ely, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.
Sadler was transported to Grinnell Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The Poweshiek County Sheriff and Malcom Fire Department also assisted on the accident.
