Tri-County knocks off Tigerhawks in extra innings

COLFAX — Junior Ries Wilson had three hits and scored the Tigerhawks’ only run of the game, but three of the top four hitters in the lineup went hitless on the night during Class 1A No. 7 Colfax-Mingo softball team’s 2-1 loss to Tri-County.

Tri-County scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning.

Wilson and sophomore Mackensie Brown had five of the team’s seven hits.

Sophomores Colbee Cunningham and Braedynn Rawlins had the other two hits.

Seniors Amy Russell and Alivia Haley and junior Rhiannon Haley came in with three of the top averages on the team, but they combined to go 0-for-10 with a walk in the 2-3-4 spots in the lineup.

The loss dropped Colfax-Mingo to 5-3 in the South Iowa Cedar League. The Tigerhawks are now 8-5 overall. Tri-County improved to 7-5 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

Cunningham started in the circle and allowed one run on six hits in four innings.

She struck out three and walked one.

Russell tossed the final five innings, allowing one run on three hits with nine strikeouts. Russell (6-2) took the loss.

Colfax-Mingo, which was playing its fourth game in four days Thursday, stays busy with the ADM tournament on Friday and Saturday.
