Westwood yields aces, course record

Five hole-in-ones have been chalked up at Westwood Golf Course since April 8. Three of those came on Westwood’s No. 6 hole.

Joe Stover has two of those aces to push his career number for hole-in-ones to four — all made at Westwood. Stover’s first of the season was on April 8 on No. 6 using his 7-iron.

On May 27, Stover aced No. 3 using his 8-iron, It was witnessed by John Stephenson, Todd Rose, Bill Stewart and Ron Urias Sr.

Leo Yokiel downed his first hole-in-one on April 19. He aced Westwood’s No. 6 using an 8-iron. Joel Shields and Bill Cooper witnessed the feat.

Butch Lester also knocked in a hole-in-one on No. 6 on June 5, and he used an 8-iron. Butch Townsend, Larry Lakin and Cecil Grimm were witnesses.

Westwood Golf Pro Brad Sponseller said Todd Rose tied the Blue tee course record on April 14, shooting a 62, which is nine strokes under par at Westwood. Sponseller said Rose tied Steve Pierce’s record, which he thought was set in 2012.

Rose made nine birdies and had nine pars in his record-tying round. Witnessing Rose’s round were Kirk Selby, Gary Yoder and Scott Cavitt.
