Hawk teams defeat Savages

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s baseball and softball teams clicked off victories at home Wednesday. The wins came in South Iowa Cedar League play over visiting Sigourney.

The Hawk softball team had a walk-off win over Class 1A ninth-ranked Sigourney’s Savages. Lynnville-Sully gave up a 6-4 lead when the Savages scored twice in the sixth. The Hawks produced the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 7-6.

Carson Fisk and Mallory Loftus combined performances in the circle for the victory. The Hawks used a 16-hit attack to win their seventh straight game.

Sigourney opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, but the Hawks responded by plating four runs in their half of the inning. The Savages tied the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Lynnville-Sully regained the lead with a two-run bottom of the fourth inning. Sigourney tied it in the sixth.

Loftus and Shiloh Cunningham each had two single and a double. Korinne Jansen went 3-for-3 with three singles. Fisk and McKinley Conover had two base hits apiece.

Hitting a single each were Haley James, Brenna Lanser and Janelle Rozendaal.

Producing 13 hits and scoring 12 runs, the Hawk baseball team defeated Sigourney 12-7. The Hawks built a 12-3 lead through six innings.

Lynnville-Sully took the lead with a run in the first inning. It added two runs in the third and after scoring four runs in the fourth it was up 7-1. Sigourney got two runs in the fifth inning.

The Hawks pushed five runs across the plate in the sixth frame. The Savages scored four times in the seventh before the Hawks stopped the rally.

Elijah Collins picked up the pitching victory. He went six innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits and two walks. He recorded six strikeouts. Josh Dunsbergen came on in relief in the seventh inning.

Going 3-for-4 with three singles apiece were Caden Dunsbergen, Carson Dunsbergen and Bray Noun Harder. Elijah Collins drove in four runs as he connected for a single and a double.

Tyler Van Zante doubled. Josh Dunsbergen singled.

Lynnville-Sully’s softball team is 8-3 overall and moved to 5-2 in SICL play. The Hawk baseball team improved to 6-1 in conference action and 7-3 overall.

The Hawk teams are on the road in SICL play for 6 p.m. games on Friday at Keota. The Lynnville-Sully softball team hosts a tournament on Saturday in Sully.
