CMB baseball makes too many mistakes in loss to Saydel

COLLINS — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter baseball team made too many mistakes in its 13-4 loss to Saydel during Heart of Iowa Conference play Friday.

The Raiders committed six errors in the loss. They rallied from early deficit to get within 6-4 after four innings, but the defending HOIC champions pulled away with three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth.

Senior Creighton Caple had two hits, two RBIs and two walks and he stole a base at the plate to lead CMB. Senior Tucker Maxwell collected two hits and scored two runs, and junior Travis Lindemoen had two hits and a steal, too.

The Raiders cranked out nine hits in the game, but Saydel (7-2 overall, 4-1 in the HOIC) paired the six CMB errors with 21 hits.

Cole Riddlebarger had four hits, four runs and five RBIs to lead the Eagles at the plate. Trevor Sprague and Joe Boehler each had three hits.

TJ Stephenson had three hits, three runs and two steals at the plate. He also started on the mound and tossed 3 2/3 innings. Stephenson allowed four earned runs on three hits and six walks.

Lindemoen started on the mound for the Raiders (1-5, 1-5) and took the loss after allowing four earned runs, five hits and two walks.

Caple tossed three innings and allowed no earned runs and nine hits.

Freshman Carter Nelsen threw the final two innings and gave up three earned runs on seven hits.

CMB plays North Polk at 5:15 p.m. Monday in Alleman.
