‘Always a Bridesmaid’ opens Friday at NCT

The Newton Community Theatre will be presenting “Always a Bridesmaid,” directed by Linda Dougan and assisted by Conor Fudge.

The story line is about four high school friends that keep their promise to be in each other’s weddings. Kari (Sara Collins) is getting married. Kari begins by sharing the history of her Godmothers, who have been there for her and for each other through the years. Libby Ruth (Julie Laube) is Kari’s mother, and she joins the show by happily serenading us. Then along comes Charlie (Debbie LaShomb) who is not a picture of health. This opening scene has the friends preparing for Monnette’s (Kate Fudge) third wedding and yes, the friends are there for her again. Deedra (Stephanie Bantell) is originally from up north, but she fits right in with the girls and their southern ways.

The venue is owned by Sadilia (Judy Richmond) who loves to keep her schedule running on time and knows how to get things done. The friends deliver many quick one-liners that make you wonder if they can be any funnier.

A player who cannot go unmentioned is the “Wedding Singer” (Scott Schaffer). He can make any woman swoon in their seats.

The NCT has once again introduced new talent to the stage. Kate Fudge has performed many times in the orchestra, but this is her first comedy on stage. The directors and other cast members did a great job of introducing her to stage work.

The props, set, costumes, lights and sound add the finishing touch. This production is very lighthearted, family friendly and all around fun.

The production will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and a matinée performance will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. More shows are set for 7:30 p.m. June 8, 9 and 10. The box office phone is 641-792-1230, and tickets are $12.
