Newton Police Department

• Nicole J. Dekonning, 35, of Newton, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. May 20 at 2617 First Ave. E. on a Jasper County warrant dated May 9 for failure to appear original charge driving while license suspended. Dekonning was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael D. Cassady, 38, of Newton, was charged with possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 12:35 p.m. Friday while police were arresting him for a felony warrant in the 700 block of South Fourth Avenue East. Cassady had a green glass meth smoking pipe with residue in the bowl and a sealed cigarette cellophane containing .4 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Cassady has a warrant out of Jasper County dated May 15 for probation violation original charge of possession of controlled substance and third-degree burglary. Cassady was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Churie M. Congdon, 29, of Mason City, was arrested at 12:35 p.m. May 19 on a warrant out of Polk County for probation violation original charge aggravated theft and another warrant out of Poweshiek County for probation violation, original charge fraudulent practice. Congdon was located in a vacant garage in the area of East Eighth Street South and South Fourth Avenue East and was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Michael T. Todd, 26, of Newton, was charged with possession of controlled substance, methamphetamine and driving while barred at 4 a.m. Friday after police saw a black Jeep Patriot stop at the intersection of West Fourth Street South and South Fifth Avenue West. The vehicle stayed stationary at the intersection for more than 10 seconds, and the driver appeared to have his head down. Police pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Todd. Todd has a barred driver’s license and was placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, an ear buds case was found behind the driver’s seat which contained less than one gram of methamphetamine. The container was located within the driver’s reach. Todd was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Austin B. Shepard, 19, of Newton, was charged with trespassing at 7:58 p.m. May 8 after police were called to Hy-Vee in reference to Shepherd being on the property. Shepard was banned Dec. 24 from the property. Shepard was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Kyle A. Edwards, 27, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 5:11 p.m. May 16 after police were called in reference to a theft of guns. Police were called to 1453 N. 11th Ave. E. where the victim told police Edwards might have stolen the guns. Edwards lives in the same apartment complex and police were given consent by Edwards to search his apartment. Police found drug paraphernalia, glass bong, grinders, glass pipes, metal pipe, syringes, metal spoons and cutter. Edwards told police the items belonged to him. Edwards was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Alexander O. Hamilton, 46, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault at 3:26 a.m. May 17 after police were called to the 600 block of East Eighth Street South in reference to a possible domestic assault. Hamilton told police he consumed alcohol earlier in the evening and then he went to the victim’s residence to try to work things out. The victim alleges Hamilton pushed his way into the residence and then was pushed into a vase. The victim’s glasses were also found on the floor and window to the house was broken. Hamilton was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
