Keith Jurney Hackathorn, 86, of Newton, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 22 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21 at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of the Midwest or the First Baptist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Keith, the son of Andrew Everett and Martha (Medlin) Hackathorn, was born March 30, 1931, in Unionville, Mo. He grew up in Unionville, and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. On Dec. 26, 1950, Keith was united in marriage with L. Irene Hill in Pollock, Mo. They made their home in Newton, where Keith worked as an assembly line foreman at the Maytag Company for more than 40 years, retiring in December of 1989. Keith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton, the American Legion Post 111 and the VFW Post 1655.  He enjoyed woodworking, restoring tractors and painting cars. He was also a talented drawer.

Keith is survived by his wife, L. Irene Hackathorn of Newton; two sons, Gail (Char) Hackathorn of Newton and Mark (Elizabeth) Hackathorn of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Adam Hackathorn, Patrick Hackathorn, Matt Hackathorn and Kathryn Hackathorn; step-grandchildren, Payton Growney, Shannon Growney, Colleen Growney, Lora Hadsall, Shawn Behun and Ryan Hackathorn; and his sister, Opal Morris of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Otis Hackathorn, Andrew Hackathorn, Clifford Hackathorn, Faundria Ratliff, Genevieve “Jane” Davis; and a step-grandson, Michael Hackathorn.
