CMB boys win fifth straight, down Ankeny Christian Academy

ANKENY — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys’ soccer team is getting hot at the right time.

The Raiders head into the postseason with five straight victories after the second win over Ankeny Christian Academy in the last five days.

Junior Ryan Sebastiano scored twice and junior Carter Fricke added a goal and an assist during the Raiders’ 4-2 non-conference triumph over ACA. The win improved CMB to 8-10 on the season.

Junior Josh Bruntz got the scoring going for CMB with 21 minutes to play in the first half. The goal was set up by Fricke, who leads the Raiders in assists. Bruntz now has six goals on the season.

The Raiders and ACA were tied at 1-all at halftime.

Sebastiano’s first goal of the game put CMB up 2-1. Fricke tallied his 12th goal of the season in the 72nd minute, and Sebastiano’s 13th goal of the year in the 73rd minute made it 4-1.

ACA got within two goals in the 75th minute, but CMB held on for another win. The Raiders defeated ACA 5-4 at home on Friday.

The Eagles dropped to 6-9 on the season. They have lost six of their last seven matches.

CMB opens postseason play against South Tama County at 5 p.m. Monday in Newton.
