Newton, CMB, PCM boys’ soccer 2A substate pairings are announced

Newton High hosts a first-round doubleheader of Iowa High School Athletic Association boys’ Class 2A soccer substate action on May 22. The IHSAA announced the 2017 substate seedings and pairings Thursday.

Newton High’s Cardinals and the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter Raiders are in the Class 2A Substate 2. Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs are in the Class 2A Substate 7. The first round of substate games are on May 22.

At Newton, CMB (5-10) will play South Tama (1-12) at 5 p.m. followed by Newton (8-5) taking on CAL (1-6) at 7 p.m. Class 2A sixth-ranked Iowa Falls-Alden (12-0) and No. 12 Hudson (10-3) received first-round byes.

The winner of the CMB and South Tama game plays at 6:30 p.m. on May 24 at Iowa Falls-Allen The winner of the Newton and CAL game plays a 5 p.m. game on May 24 at Hudson.

Semifinal game winners play for the Substate 2 championship at noon on May 27 at Iowa Falls-Alden.

In Class 2A Substate 7, PCM (3-8) plays Ballard (6-5) and Bondurant-Farrar (4-5) plays Carlisle (2-11) in first-round action. Bondurant-Farrar hosts a doubleheader with the PCM and Ballard game at 5 p.m. followed by Carlisle and Bondurant-Farrar at 7 p.m. on May 22.

First-round byes in Substate 7 went to seventh-ranked Perry (11-3) and 10th-ranked ADM (10-4). The winner of the PCM and Ballard game plays a semifinal game at Perry and the winner of the Bondurant-Farrar and Carlisle is at ADM on May 24. Both semifinal games start at 6:30 p.m.

Winners of the semifinal games play for the Substate 7 title at noon on May 27 at Perry.

Substate champions advance to the IHSAA state soccer tournament, June 1-3, at Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.
