Norwalk hands Cardinal girls a loss

NORWALK — Newton High senior Ryanne Rausch scored her 10th goal of the season on Tuesday.

It wasn’t enough as the Class 2A No. 10 Cardinals lost 3-1 to 2A No. 6 Norwalk.

The Warriors led 1-0 at halftime. They added two more second-half goals to build a 3-0 lead. Rausch’s goal came with two minutes remaining in the Little Hawkeye Conference contest.

Norwalk got two goals from Megan Roberts — one in each half — and a goal from Rachel Gavin. The Warriors improved to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in LHC play.

Newton dropped its third straight game after starting the season 7-0. All three losses have been to ranked teams. The Cardinals are 3-2 in conference action.

The Cardinals (7-3) hosts 2A fourth-ranked ADM for a 5:30 p.m. varsity game Friday at H.A. Lynn Stadium. The junior varsity game is at 7:15 p.m.
