This past legislative session saw the legalization of fireworks in Iowa. Cities and counties however have the opportunity to opt out of the usage but still have to allow the sale in the city. If the city decides to opt out of usage it will be merely symbolical. With retail outlets planned for the Newton area, residents will not be traveling far to purchase fireworks. Fireworks will be used either route the city takes. People will also be injured, have no doubt about it. However, people will also be hurt driving their car, playing sports and sheer stupidity but we do not make those activities illegal. Creating laws which are unenforceable weaken all other laws, therefore I oppose this preposterous recommendation.
