C-M girls win four events, finish third at Martensdale

MARTENSDALE — With the state qualifier looming, Colfax-Mingo girls’ track and field coach Zach Tomas decided to lighten the load for his Tigerhawk squad.

Even so, Colfax-Mingo was still very competitive in the Martensdale-St. Marys Girls Invitational on Monday.

Senior Dakota Hostetter added to her team-high point total with 22.5 more points after winning the 100- and 200-meter dash, and the Tigerhawks finished in a tie for third in the team standings.

Wayne scored 150 points to win the Class B standings. Host Martensdale-St. Marys was four points better than East Union and Colfax-Mingo, who both scored 128 in third. Twin Cedars was a distant fifth with nine points.

The Tigerhawks won four events on the night.

Hostetter won the 100 in 13.85 seconds and crossed the finish line first in the 200 in 28.44. Hostetter has now won the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000 in 2017.

Freshman Abbey McConeghey won the 1,500 in 5 minutes, 20.42 seconds.

The other win came in the shot put as Colfax-Mingo finished 1-2. Sophomore Braedynn Rawlins won the event with a toss of 31 feet, 10 inches, and junior Rhiannon Haley was second with a throw of 31-9.

The Tigerhawks also went 1-2 in the 200. Hostetter was followed at the finish line by sophomore teammate Jordan Atwood, who stopped the clock in 30.15 seconds.

Sophomore Ilia Hostetter and junior Ries Wilson each finished second in an individual event.

Wilson was the runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 4-8, and Ilia Hostetter finished second in the 3,000 with a time of 13:59.23.

Senior Alivia Haley grabbed the bronze medal with a throw of 90-5 1/2.

Three relays were third overall — the shuttle hurdle, sprint medley and distance medley.

The sprint medley team of sophomore Samantha Jeter, freshman Jodine Woods, Atwood and junior Courtney Burdess was third with a time of 2:10.17.

The shuttle hurdle relay of juniors Bridget Reese and Danielle Decker, senior Reagan Nichol and sophomore Hannah Johnson crossed the finish line with a time of 1:26.14.

The distance medley finished third. The team of Atwood, sophomore Colbee Cunningham, Dakota Hostetter and McConeghey finished in 4:39.26.

Colfax-Mingo competes in a Class 1A state qualifier at 4 p.m. Thursday in Earlham.
