Dorothy M. Reames, 99, of Newton, died Friday morning, April 28, 2017, at Newton Village Health Care.

Dorothy was born June 25, 1917, near Centerville, the daughter of Levi Marion and Minerva Edna (Jennings) Stevens. She attended rural Centerville country school. On Nov. 1, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage with Ernest Andrew Reames in Centerville. She devoted her life to her family. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandma and great-great-grandma and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a member of the Newton New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, was missionary treasurer, taught Sunday school and enjoyed embroidering, reading and gardening.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Kenneth (Coni) Reames of Oklahoma City, Okla.; daughters, Edna Mary (Jim) Zimmer of Olathe, Kan., and Sharon Mae Longacre of Newton; her seven grandchildren, Brian (Mandy) Longacre, Melissa (David) Coffman, Stacy (Eric) Dorsey, Kendra (Ross) Musick, Rachelle Theel, Monica (Scott) Pritchard and Matt (Jeni) Zimmer; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; 10 nieces and nephews; and her many good neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest, March 10, 1998; her three sisters; one brother; and a brother in infancy.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 1 at the Newton New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, with a visitation at the church an hour prior to the service. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. There will be a lunch at the church following the committal service. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Dorothy’s family, Church of the Nazarene or Hospice.
