Raider boys finish fifth at Bengal Relays

GILBERT — Backed by a 1-2 finish in the shot put, the Collins-Maxwell/Baxter boys’ track and field team placed fifth at the annual Bengal Relays hosted by Gilbert High School on Monday night.

Sophomore Will Clapper won both the shot put and discus and senior Brady Kemp gave the Raiders a 1-2 finish in the shot put on the night.

CMB scored 95 points in fifth. Host Gilbert won the meet with 193.5 points. Iowa Falls-Alden finished second with 144.

The next three teams — all from the Heart of Iowa Conference — were separated by just 10.5 points. North Polk (105.5) edged Roland-Story (105) by .5 points for third. West Marshall (52), South Hardin (22) and Hampton-Dumont (20) completed the field.

Clapper won the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 5 3/4 inches. Kemp was second with a toss of 47-1.

Clapper’s winning discus throw covered 126-11.

Junior Carter Fricke was fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.33 seconds and senior Ben Gunderson took fourth in the 110 high hurdles in 18.01.

The Raiders also went 4-5 in the 400 hurdles.

Joe Keeling was fourth and Marcus Mitchell finished fifth.

Clapper throws the shot put in the Drake Relays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The rest of the Raiders compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference meet at 4 p.m. on May 2 in Baxter.
