JCAA brings awesome night of comedy, music

Now that “Jesus Christ Superstar” is over, I had an opportunity to be on the other side of the stage participating with a well attended audience with hand clapping, singing and laughing. An awesome night of a comical, musical group “Three Guys Thirty Instruments” named, “New Odyssey.”

The stage was full of musical instruments including a double keyboard, drums, guitars, banjos, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flute, harmonica, accordion and a melodica naming a few. Keep in mind … 30 units of sound.

I found myself wondering how the musicians were going to incorporate all those instruments into their act. I was amazed. I was intrigued with the back up music played along with the musicians so that they could move from each instruments smoothly.

I especially enjoyed the drummer, Gary Todd. He was the comic. He drew in the audience with his humor and for those of you who were there highlighting, “Gabe.”

His trumpet tone was very impressive. One of my favorite acts that was performed was “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band” because he put on a long blue coat that reminded me of the Beatles. That blue coat had a twist ... it was full of drum sounds. He would slap parts of his body to create the digital sound of drumming. One shoe had the bass drum and the other shoe had a cymbal so he would be jumping around and slapping himself to produce the drums with fills. So much energy.

From the great imitation of Louis Armstrong singing “What A Wonderful World” with the tradition of the trumpet playing along with the handkerchief to the fridge dress with high heals and wig portraying Tina Turner singing “Rolling on a River” was amazingly entertaining.

The last song gave me goosebumps with the harmony sung and the trumpet trio as the three men performed this inspiring arrangement of “How Great Thou Art” absolutely fabulous.

I highly recommend this group for your entertainment the next time they are in the area.

I want to thank the board members of Jasper County Concert Association in bringing such fine entertainment for our enjoyment. Be sure to check out next year’s line up, it looks great.
