Raider boys close gap against ranked Rebels

REINBECK — Last season, the Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ soccer team blasted Collins-Maxwell/Baxter, 11-0, in its first season back on the pitch after a five-year hiatus.

The Raiders had a chance to show the state they have improved from one year to the next, and that’s exactly what they did.

Playing on the Rebels’ home turf, CMB didn’t win but closed the gap significantly.

Class 1A No. 3 Gladbrook-Reinbeck won the match, 3-1, and improved to 3-0 on the season.

Ryan Sebastiano scored with 22 minutes to play in the game. It was the second goal of the season for Sebastiano, and the first goal scored against the Rebels in 2017.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck, which won its first two games by scores of 10-0, led 2-0 at halftime. Erik Knaack scored twice and now has six goals on the season. Parker Bown added one goal and an assist in the win.

CMB (2-4) hosts Pella Christian at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Maxwell. The Raiders host Prairie City-Monroe at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
