PELLA — Brady Eberline and Collin Hemann played as Newton High’s No. 2 doubles team in Tuesday’s Little Hawkeye Conference tennis dual against host Pella. They had the longest match of the dual with the Little Dutch.
Eberline and Hemann had won the first set against Ani Tangellapalli and Reid Leidigh, but the Pella pair rebounded. Tangellapalli and Leidigh claimed a 4-6, 7-5 (10-1) win to help Pella sweep the Cardinals, 11-0.
In the No. 1 singles match, Jordan Roozeboom beat Newton’s Seamus Vandemore, 6-6, 6-0. Newton’s Reid Miller lost 6-1, 6-1 to Tangellapalli at No. 2 singles. Eberline dropped a 6-2, 6-1 No. 3 singles match to Pella’s Michael Reed.
Leidigh beat Hemann, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Grant Hamand dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Pella’s Benjamin Lauritsen at No. 5 singles and Nick Ver Steeg lost 6-1, 6-0 to Pella’s Ryan Van Maanen at No. 6 singles.
The Little Dutch duo of Lauritsen and Reed beat Vandemore and Miller 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Hamand and Ver Steeg lost 6-3, 6-4 to Pella’s Van Maanen at No. 3 doubles.
Pella’s Colton Edwards and Sam Sharp beat Newton’s Devon Van Brogen and Grant Freese 6-2, 6-0 at No 4 doubles. The No. 5 doubles match went to Pella’s Trevor Nelson and Ben Tysseling , 6-2, 6-2, over Newton’s Alex Miller an Rhanyan Oldfield.
Newton’s boys host a 4:15 p.m. LHC dual Thursday against Norwalk.
