Ending abuse is everyone’s business

April is a busy month for those of us who serve victims of violent crimes, abuse and sexual assault. April is both National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month. This year’s theme, “Engaging New Voices,” promotes the idea that ending abuse is everyone’s business; men and women, old and young.

We know 1 in 5 women and 1 in 33 men experience sexual assault in their lifetime. We know that nearly 3 million cases of child abuse are reported each year in the United States. We must take a stand. Crisis Intervention Services is partnering with businesses and communities throughout Jasper County this month.

Our actions, big and small, have a ripple effect on our communities. From modeling good behavior to addressing inappropriate conduct, we all can make a difference.
