Celebrate Earth Day at NSNWR

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will be observing Earth Day on April 22 by hosting a volunteer work day.

Volunteers will participate in tallgrass prairie and oak savanna reconstruction from 9 a.m. to noon. During this event, volunteers will help plant native plants and clear oak savanna habitats.

All volunteers will receive a free lunch at noon, provided by the Friends of Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge.

Nancy Corona, Volunteer Coordinator, reports “Each year, the Refuge sponsors this event and invites volunteers from a wide variety of groups to join us for this annual spring cleanup.

Volunteers are contributing to our mission at the refuge, to reestablish tallgrass prairie and oak savanna. Come celebrate Earth Day by enjoying the beauty and serenity of the tallgrass prairie. Groups and individuals are welcome to participate.”

If you would like to volunteer, sign up with Doreen Van Ryswyk at 515-994-3400 or doreen_vanryswyk@fws.gov. Registration is required by April 19.
