Newton Police Department

• Ronald L. Reimers, 58, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault, mental illness or injury at 9:13 p.m. Sunday when police were called to the 800 block of South. 17th Avenue West in reference to a domestic assault in progress. When police arrived, they saw Reimers lying on his back with the victim physically restraining him in the dining room of the residence. Police spoke with Reimers who said he and the victim had been arguing and it turned physical. He told police he had attempted to go after the victim but the victim took him to the ground and restrained him until police arrived. Reimers was released and he was issued a citation to appear in court.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

Chad D. Warrick, 48, of Monroe, was charged with operating while under the influence and carrying weapons at 11:37 p.m. March 31 after police stopped a vehicle in the 9500 block of Highway 14 South in Monroe, for an equipment violation. Warrick smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes. Warrick told the deputy he had been drinking alcohol and was a bar to drop his passengers off. Warrick gave a breath test of more than .08. There were also several open containers in the vehicle. Also found in the vehicle was a Ruger SR22 handgun that had three bullets in the clip and one in the chamber. Warrick was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Jesse L. Waterland, 35, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:58 a.m. Sunday after officials pulled him over at 1501 N. 11th Ave. E. for an equipment violation. Waterland told a deputy he didn’t have a license. Waterland was found to have 17 withdrawals in effect. Waterland was arrested and his vehicle was towed. During inventory of the vehicle, a book bag was found and inside was a black case with a used needle, a spoon with cotton on it and a small plastic bag. Waterland told officials it was his and he used it for drugs. Waterland was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• A 17-year-old juvenile, of Malcom, Ty Alan, 19, of Grinnell, and Gabrielle R. Griffith, 19, of Malcom, were charged with possession of controlled substance and drug paraphernalia at 7 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highway 224 and Highway F27 when deputies saw a gray F150 driving northbound on Highway 224 with a non-functioning third brake light. The vehicle was occupied by five individuals. A strong smell of marijuana was present in the vehicle. The juvenile, a passenger, had watery, blood shot eyes and appeared nervous. All occupants exited the vehicle and a search of the pickup was done. A bag of marijuana was found under the passenger’s seat. Drug paraphernalia, a glass pipe that was loaded with marijuana, was found in a red cooler on the back seat floor boards. No one accepted responsibility for the marijuana and paraphernalia, all parties were arrested and transported to jail. All three were all booked into the jail. Two other individuals were juveniles and released to their guardians.

• Austin E. Rominger, 23, of Monroe, was charged with driving while barred and third-degree criminal mischief at 10:41 p.m. April 1 at 4550 Quail Ave. in Monroe. Deputies saw a vehicle that went off the roadway and drive into a farm field. Rominger took out several posts and barbed wire fencing and tore up the inside of the fenced in area, causing approximately $1000 to repair the damage. Rominger left the scene of the accident and was stopped for an unrelated traffic offense by a Monroe Police Officer. Rominger’s vehicle was later linked to the property and part of his tail light was left at the property. Rominger told officials he had swerved off the road to avoid hitting a deer. Rominger said he didn’t stay because he knew he did not have a license and was scared. Rominger was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
