PCM girls golf wins opener over E-B-F

OSKALOOSA — The weather wasn’t great, and the conditions on the golf course were not ideal, but the Prairie City-Monroe girls golf team opened the new season with a road win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Tuesday at Harvest Point Golf Course.

The Mustangs, led by senior Breanna Maher, shot a 210 and defeated the Rockets by 35 strokes.

“We didn’t play very well for our first meet,” PCM coach Val Edwards said. “The course was very wet and the weather cooperated with us, but stayed cloudy and very cool.”

Maher won medalist honors with a 10-over-par 45. Next in line for the Mustangs were Sabrina Reed and Mack Bussan, who both carded 54s.

Madeline Mitchell was the fourth counting score with a 57.

PCM’s varsity lineup also included non-counting scores of 61 by Ellie Steenhoek and 63 by Lexi Reed.

The Mustangs play at home for the first time this season against Pleasantville at 4 p.m. Monday at Gateway Recreation Golf Course in Monroe.

PCM soccer squads lose

to Des Moines Hoover

DES MOINES — The PCM varsity soccer squads played Des Moines Hoover in a doubleheader on Tuesday night, and both teams were shutout.

The PCM boys lost to Hoover, 10-0, to drop to 0-4 on the season. The Mustang girls lost 4-0 to the Huskies in the season opener for both teams.

In the boys game, Hussein Buuh scored three goals and had one assist, Elvir Kerelaj scored two goals and Lal Ro Puia dished out two assists for Hoover (2-0) in the win.

The Huskies have outscored their first two opponents 13-0.

The Mustang boys host Chariton at 7 p.m. Thursday in Monroe, while the PCM girls play at 7 p.m. Friday at Knoxville.
