Charles B. “Bud” Davis, 85, of Newton, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center. Bud will be cremated and no services are scheduled. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory will be handling the cremation. Memorials to the Newton YMCA may be left at the funeral home.

Bud was born May 12, 1931, in Newton, to parents Clarence W. and Olive May (Rardon) Davis. He attended Newton High School until the age of 17 before enlisting in the United States Army. Bud was a pole vaulter for the Army and a Korean War Veteran serving until 1952.

Bud enjoyed spending time in the boxing ring. He joined the Newton YMCA boxing club at the age of 14. He went on to become a repeat Golden Gloves boxing champion and had an invitation to take part in the Olympics. On July 26, 1953, Bud was united in marriage to Norma Barrett in Colfax. He retired in 2001, from the Vernon Company in Newton, where he served at the UAW vice-president.

Bud is survived by his three daughters all of Newton, Kim (Barry) Roper, Kathee (Mark) Shaffer and Jacki (Brad) Tharp; seven grandchildren, Krista (Kevin) Clark, Tanner (Danielle) Illingworth, Mackenzie Illingworth, Aaron Illingworth, Kelsey (Kyle) Meier, Dustin Doran and Robbie Doran; his 11 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Tom Davis and Marilyn Waddell, both of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beautiful wife, Norma; three brothers, Bill, Dean and Jack Davis; and two sisters, Marjorie Huck and Darlene Agard.
