Field events lead Tigerhawk boys at Nevada Cub Relays

NEVADA — The Colfax-Mingo boys’ track and field team got off to a solid start in field events during the team’s outdoor season opener Tuesday.

The Tigerhawks came home with five top-four finishes and three of those tallies were in the shot put, discus and high jump.

Colfax-Mingo, which was the second smallest school at the meet, finished eighth in the eight-team Class B standings. The Tigerhawks scored 205.5 points and finished .5 points behind Class 2A South Hardin.

Class 3A Gilbert won the meet with 450 points, followed by 3A Iowa Falls-Alden (381), 3A Nevada (366), 3A Carroll (292.5), 1A Colo-NESCO (230) and 2A West Marshall (218).

Leading the way for the Tigerhawks was senior Jimmy Camp, who placed second in the shot put. Camp’s best throw was marked at 39 feet, 6 1/2 inches.

In the discus, junior Colton Lourens was third with a toss of 120-4. Sophomore Zarek Hill also was third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.81 seconds.

Hill’s time was the seventh fastest in school history.

In the high jump, junior Reegan Van Dyke placed fourth with a leap of 5-4. The 4x400 relay team also was fourth as the team of senior Adam Teed, Hill and sophomores Ethan Summy and Holister Koenig crossed the finish line in 3 minutes, 50.23 seconds.

The Tigerhawks compete at 4:15 p.m. on April 4 at the Lynnville-Sully co-ed meet.
