Robert Dean Waddle died on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Accura Healthcare of Newton West, where he had resided since October of 2015. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 31, at the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Dean was born on a farm near Monroe on July 25, 1938 and attended Union Valley Country School through the 7th grade. He then went to school in Monroe and graduated in the class of 1956. This past August, Dean attended his 60th class reunion. During high school, Dean worked as a meat cutter at Rich’s U-Save Grocery in Monroe. Following graduation, in addition to farming, he became a certified welder and worked at various factories before retiring from Midwest Manufacturing in Kellogg. In February of 1961, Dean enlisted in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in January of 1965.

Dean enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, mowing yard, and removing snow. He was known around as an excellent “southpaw” fast pitch pitcher. He also liked raising exotic pheasants.

Dean married and later was divorced to Charlotte Gregory. He is survived by their two children, Martin “Marty” Robert Waddle of Killduff and Carmela Sue Waddle of Billings, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Robert and Merle Givena (Clevenger) Waddle and five siblings, Doyle Cecil, Wanda Pearl Walker, Velda Irene Munson, Dwight Floyd and Zella Mae Rickabaugh.
