Two local businesses related to health and fitness will soon share a suite on First Avenue East. Anytime Fitness and Kinetic Edge, a physical therapy clinic, will be moving into a new building that is not yet built.
The building will be constructed in the available space between the building which currently houses Hallmark and Hammer Medical Supply and the Napa Auto Parts building.
Store Manager of Anytime Fitness Lynzey Shrum said the building will offer double the space than what the workout facility offers now. Anytime Fitness is currently located at 1718 First Avenue East.
Shrum said she hasn’t been given a definite timeline but she was told the building would be finished in the fall.
“We haven’t seen any floor plans and we were told it will be finished in the fall,” Shrum said. “The building will allow us to have more workout equipment and we would be able to do group classes inside.”
Shrum said in the past they have had to hold boot camps and larger group classes outside in the summer. The new space will allow Trainer and Health Coach Brittany Arrendell to instruct group classes inside.
On the other side of the building, patients will find Kinetic Edge which currently sits on 321 E. Third St. N. across from Skiff Medical Center.
Matt Scotton, co-owner and physical therapist at Kinetic Edge in Newton, said the clinic is not in great view for passerby’s. Scotton said the benefits of the new building will also be better parking and better visibility.
“A lot of people don’t know where we are currently located,” Scotton said. “One of our goals is to have a better location and no stairs — we are happy to have a place built for us.”
Scotton said Kinetic Edge is unique because a lot of therapy clinics are owned by big health care systems.
“We are locally owned and we can really adapt well and quickly to our clients needs without having all the rules and regulations that big health care requires,” Scotton said.
The clinic’s hours, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., will remain the same as well as the services provided.
Scotton said Kinetic Edge and its employees are looking forward to sharing a building with Anytime Fitness.
“I think Anytime Fitness is a good company to share a building with,” Scotton said. “We want to attract people that want to be more active, and that’s why people come to physical therapy.”
