Newton Police Department

Andrea M. Henderson, 38, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault at 10 p.m. Saturday when police were called to 718 E. Fourth St. N. in reference to a domestic fight. When police arrived the victim said Henderson hit him on the thumb with a hammer. The victim's thumb appeared to be torn and there was visible blood. Henderson was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shawn C. Dobbs, 26, of Newton, was charged with fifth-degree theft at 1 p.m. March 16 when police responded to Hy-Vee in reference to a shoplifter. Dobbs was seen by Hy-Vee employees taking two pieces of pizza and a chocolate milk from the store shelf and consuming the items. Employees stopped Dobbs and requested he pay for the items. Dobbs said he didn’t have a method of payment for the items. The total value of items was $3.61.

• Tammi M. Hubbard, 41, of Newton, was cited with suppling alcohol to persons under legal age, Dakota J. St. Pierre, 18, of Newton, was cited with possession of alcohol by persons underage, Fidelmar M. Villarreal, 19, of Des Moines, was cited with possession of alcohol by persons underage and Christian M. McGhghy, 18, of Newton, was cited with possession of alcohol underage at 4 a.m. Saturday.

• Raymond R. Prewitt, 55, of Newton, was charged with trespassing at noon Sunday when police were called to Hy-Vee gas in reference to trespass. Prewitt had been trespassed from the property in December. Prewitt was released and issued a citation to appear in court.

• Joseph E. Cockerton, 25, of Newton, was charged with domestic abuse assault at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after police were called to 306 W. Third St. S. in reference to a possible assault. The victim told police she had been forcefully grabbed by Cockerton, resulting in redness and bruising to her forearms. Cockerton told police he had grabbed the victim but he was doing it to keep the victim’s hands out of his face. Cockerton was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Jason E. Trotter, 43, of Newton, and Victoria A. Cook, 29, of Kellogg, were charged with two counts of violation of no contact at 8 p.m. Tuesday after a deputy was called anonymously about a domestic at a house on Main Street in Kellogg. Trotter had left the residence and he was found at a convenience store. Trotter said he wasn’t at the residence. Cook told police Trotter was at the house and had to grab items. Trotter and Cook were arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Dewayne M. Vereka, 45, of Grinnell, was charged with sex offender registration violation, first offense at 5 p.m. March 10 after Vereka failed to register his new address. Vereka was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Clifford J. Jones, 54, of Newton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance and operating while under the influence at 2 a.m. Wednesday after Jones was stopped for speeding at the intersection of West 88th Street South and Highway F48 in Colfax. The deputy saw a bag on the ground with a crystal substance inside of it. Jones first denied it being his. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine. Jones admitted to smoking three hours prior to being stopped. After testing, Jones was found to be impaired by methamphetamine and was charged.
