St. Luke UMC presents The Last Supper Drama

As a part of the Easter season celebration, St. Luke United Methodist Church is presenting The Last Supper Drama. All members of the community are invited to participate in the presentation at 10:30 a.m. April 2 at the church, 501 E. 19th St. N.

The drama is provided by the United Methodist Men of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church.

The Last Supper Drama is based on the Leonardo Di Vinci’s painting of the same name. It has the disciples arriving in the Upper Room, unaware of the importance of the night’s significance. As they sit at the table, Jesus startles them with the words, “One of you will betray Me,” freezing them into their position at the table.

The drama continues with each disciple at the table sharing their story one-by-one about their relationship with Jesus.

“They have been presenting the Last Supper Drama for almost 50 years with up to a dozen performances each year. It is a well-rehearsed and presented story that will touch the hearts and minds of its viewers,” St. Luke Pastor Audrey Young said. “Especially moving is the moment that Jesus provides the Communion elements to the disciples and includes the congregation in attendance.”

A free will offering will be taken during the drama to be given to the group to distribute to missions. Following the worship presentation, a potluck meal will be shared with the men presenting the drama including Jesus, his disciples and the crew.
