Shirley A. Conn, 98, of Grinnell, formerly of Newton, died Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell. A memorial service will take place at a later date at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell.
Shirley, the daughter of Francis, Sr. and Alice (Havens) Wilcox, was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School. She was united in marriage with Irvin Conn June 23, 1938, in Marshalltown. She worked as a receptionist at the Newton Clinic for several years. Shirley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, where she was active in several ladies’ circles. She was an accomplished seamstress and had a flare for home decorating. She loved antiques and raising Birman cats.
Those left to honor Shirley’s memory include her sons, Gary (Sally) Conn of Clermont, Ga., and Tim (Pat) Conn of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her brother, Francis (Kathy) Wilcox of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin; daughter, Alicia Wuebben; brother, Wilbur Wilcox; and sister, Roberta Knudson.
