Crime Stoppers offers $500 reward for homicide tips

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance from the community regarding the homicide of a 61-year-old Newton man who was found dead in his home Monday.

The Jasper County Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $500 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects.

Officials received a 911 call to a Newton residence Monday afternoon in reference to an unresponsive individual.

When law enforcement and Newton Fire and EMS arrived at 4252 Maple Street, they found Jose Luis C. Ramirez Berber lying on the floor unresponsive.

It was determined the death was suspicious and on Wednesday the sheriff's office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation ruled the death a homicide.

Authorities declined to release the cause of death and the 911 call at this time, citing the ongoing investigation.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner was requested to conduct an autopsy on Ramirez Berber.
