Centering Prayer for Lent at CUCC

Congregational United Church of Christ, 308 E. Second St. N., will be offering an opportunity for “Centering Prayer” on Wednesday evenings during the season of Lent. Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. It is simply a wordless, trusting opening of one’s self to the divine presence, according to the Rev. Jessica Petersen.

All are invited to explore this method of prayer during the Lenten season and in preparation for the celebration of Easter that is to come. The group will meet in the chapel, just off of the main sanctuary, on Wednesdays, 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. beginning Wednesday with the final meeting on April 12. Participants are encouraged to come when able. No previous experience is necessary. This event is open to the public and free of charge.
